U.S. Companies To Congress: NAFTA Makes Us Globally Competitive

October 25th, 2017

The New York Times’s Ana Swanson reports that American companies from automakers to tech giants are coming together to fight for the deal that helps them compete in the modern world: the North American Free Trade Agreement.

The story outlines widespread fears voiced by the automotive sector as well as the chemical, railroad, and retail industries that withdrawing from the deal would drive manufacturing outside the United States—and impose a de facto tax on American industry through tariffs.

As Trade Leadership Coalition Chairman Bill Lane told the Times, “[I]t doesn’t matter what the tax rate is if you’re not competitive, and Nafta makes North American manufacturing competitive.”
